What Is LGUP Tool?

LGUP Tool (LG Update) is a free Windows firmware flash utility for newer LG Android devices (2017 and later). It handles TOT firmware files for models like the LG G6, V20, V30, V35, G7, and V40. Free to download, runs on Windows 10 and 11 with LG USB drivers installed.

LGUP (LG Update) is LG's official firmware flashing utility designed for newer LG Android devices released from 2017 onward. While the original LG Flash Tool handles KDZ firmware files for older LG devices, LGUP was developed to support the TOT firmware format used by models like the LG G6, V20, V30, V35, G7, and V40 series.

LGUP is a smart tool you can download for free to perform a complete firmware flash, factory reset, or firmware update on any supported LG device. The tool adds full support for all LG device variants and handles KDZ, TOT, and BIN stock firmware formats. It is available as a lightweight package and runs entirely on Windows — there is no Android APK version.

The device in your hand performs best when running a clean, up-to-date firmware. LGUP makes it straightforward to upgrade, restore, or recover your LG device with the exact same firmware it shipped with, or any official LG firmware release for your model.

Important: LGUP is not developed by an officially public LG release channel. Use the tool at your own risk and follow the steps carefully. The tool follows established procedures used by the developer community and is safe when used with the correct firmware for your exact device model.

Why Should You Flash Stock Firmware?

Flashing stock firmware is useful in several ways. It lets you install the most recent official firmware on your LG device, which can improve performance, fix bugs, and add new features from LG. If you believe upgrading to the latest firmware improves performance and fixes an issue you are experiencing, LGUP makes this possible without requiring a service center visit.

Another common use case is bringing your device back to a completely stock state after advanced modifications such as rooting or installing a custom ROM. If you have rooted your device and want to return to the official software — whether for warranty purposes, resale, or simply to restore default behavior — LGUP can reflash the stock firmware cleanly.

LGUP is also the primary recovery tool for LG devices that enter a bootloop, fail to start normally, or encounter serious software corruption. As long as your device can enter download mode, LGUP can reflash the firmware and restore normal operation.

LGUP Tool Compatible LG Devices

Like many other flash tools for Android, LGUP works through Windows. There is no APK version — to use LGUP, you must have a Windows PC with the correct LG USB drivers installed. Connect your LG device to the PC via USB while in download mode to begin the flash process.

LGUP is designed primarily for LG devices running Android 6.0 Marshmallow and higher. It fully supports the following LG lineups:

How to Install LGUP Tool on PC

Before using LGUP to flash firmware, you must install the tool correctly on your Windows PC. Follow these steps to complete the installation without missing any critical components.

  1. Download the LGUP zip file from our download section above and extract it to a folder on your Windows PC.
  2. Download and install LG USB drivers on the PC if you have not already done so. This is required for your device to be recognized.
  3. Open the extracted LGUP folder. You will see two main files inside. Begin with the DLL installation — run LGUP_8994_DLL_Version_0_0_3_23.MSI first. This automatically installs several required DLL files.
  4. Once the DLL installation is complete, install the second file: LGUP_Install_Ver_1_14_3.MSI. This is the main executable installer. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
  5. After both installations are complete, LGUP Tool will be available in your Start Menu. You are now ready to flash firmware onto your LG device.

How to Flash LG Firmware with LGUP

Once LGUP is installed and your LG USB drivers are in place, follow these steps to flash stock firmware:

  1. Download the correct TOT or KDZ firmware file for your exact LG device model and carrier.
  2. Install LG USB drivers if you have not done so already.
  3. Power off your LG phone. Connect it to your PC using a compatible USB cable while holding Volume Down to enter download mode (method varies by model — check your device's specific combination).
  4. Open LGUP Tool on your PC. Your connected LG device should appear in the tool interface. If not, reconnect until it is recognized.
  5. In the LGUP interface, ensure the correct firmware file (TOT or KDZ) is selected in the File Path field pointing to the firmware you downloaded.
  6. Close LGUP Tool completely, then relaunch it. Verify the firmware file path is still correctly shown in the interface.
  7. Select the REFURBISH option from the flash tool interface and confirm the BIN file checkbox is selected. Click Start to begin flashing.
  8. Wait for the process to complete without interrupting the connection. LGUP will display progress through the flash stages.
  9. Once flashing finishes, your LG device will restart automatically. You can then disconnect the USB cable and enjoy the freshly installed firmware.
Data Warning: The REFURBISH flash option in LGUP will erase all user data on the device. Back up your photos, contacts, and app data before proceeding.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is LGUP Tool?
LGUP (LG Update) is LG's official firmware flashing utility for newer LG devices (2017+). It handles TOT firmware files, unlike the older LG Flash Tool which uses KDZ files. LGUP supports a wider range of newer LG models and is the recommended tool for any LG device from the G6 generation onward.
Is LGUP different from LG Flash Tool?
Yes. LGUP handles TOT files for newer models; LG Flash Tool handles KDZ files for older models. For LG V20, G6, V30 and newer, use LGUP. For older models like the G3, G4, and G5, the original LG Flash Tool is appropriate.
Does LGUP work on Windows 11?
Yes, with LG USB drivers installed. Run LGUP as Administrator on Windows 11 if it does not launch automatically. Both the installer and the main executable may require elevated permissions.
Can LGUP unbrick my LG phone?
Yes — if your phone can enter download mode (usually by holding Volume Down while connecting to USB), LGUP can reflash the stock firmware to recover a bricked, bootlooping, or unresponsive device. If the device cannot enter download mode at all, hardware service may be required.
