The LG USB driver is a small Windows software package that enables your PC to communicate with your LG Android phone over USB. It is required before using LG Flash Tool, LGUP, or ADB commands. Without it, Windows shows the device as "Unknown" and no flash software can detect the phone.
Why You Need LG USB Drivers
LG USB drivers are small software packages that tell Windows how to communicate with your LG Android phone over a USB connection. Without them, Windows cannot properly identify your device — it will appear as "Unknown Device" in Device Manager and neither LG Flash Tool nor LGUP will be able to detect it.
When you put your LG phone into Download Mode and connect it via USB, Windows looks up the appropriate driver to handle the connection. If that driver is missing, the handshake fails and the flash software sees nothing. This is by far the most common reason LG Flash Tool shows an empty device dropdown.
Both LG Flash Tool and LGUP require properly installed USB drivers to communicate with your phone in Download Mode. Even if the phone charges fine via USB, a missing driver will block all flash operations — charging and data transfer use different USB interfaces.
Important: Always install USB drivers before connecting your LG phone for flashing. Install the driver package first, then connect the phone and enter Download Mode.

Two packages are available depending on your needs. The standard USB Driver package is sufficient for LG Flash Tool and LGUP. The LG Mobile Support Tool includes the driver plus a device manager interface for firmware updates and phone management.

How to Install LG USB Driver — Step by Step
Installation takes about two minutes. Follow these steps in order to ensure the driver is correctly recognized by Windows before you connect your phone.
- Download the LG USB Driver package from the section above.
- Extract the ZIP file to a folder on your desktop — right-click the ZIP and select "Extract All."
- Right-click the
.inf file inside the extracted folder and select Install. If an executable installer is included, run the .exe file instead and follow the wizard.
- Connect your LG phone via USB cable. Use the original cable or a quality data cable — charge-only cables will not work.
- Open Device Manager (press Win + X then click Device Manager). Your LG phone should appear under "Portable Devices" or "Android Device" without a yellow warning icon.
- If the device shows "Unknown Device" with a yellow exclamation mark, right-click it and select Update Driver → Browse my computer for drivers → navigate to the extracted folder and click OK.
- Your LG phone is now ready for use with LG Flash Tool or LGUP. Proceed to put the phone into Download Mode before opening the flash software. See the how to flash guide for complete step-by-step flashing instructions.
Tip: If you are on Windows 11 and the driver won't install, right-click the installer and select "Run as Administrator." Windows 11 sometimes requires elevated permissions for unsigned device drivers.

Troubleshooting USB Driver Issues
If your LG phone isn't recognized after installing the driver, one of a few common issues is usually responsible. For a full breakdown of LG Flash Tool errors, see the troubleshooting guide. Here are the most frequent driver-specific problems and their fixes.
Device not recognized after driver install
If Device Manager still shows an "Unknown Device" after installing the driver, try a different USB port on your computer — specifically switch from a USB 3.0 (blue) port to a USB 2.0 (black) port. Some LG phones in Download Mode communicate better over USB 2.0. If the problem persists on Windows 10/11, you may need to temporarily disable driver signature enforcement: hold Shift while clicking Restart → Troubleshoot → Advanced Options → Startup Settings → Restart → press 7 to disable signature enforcement → install driver.
Driver installation fails or shows a warning
Right-click the installer and select Run as Administrator. On Windows 11, Windows Security may flag unsigned drivers — this is normal for older LG driver packages. Temporarily disable Windows Defender real-time protection during installation, or add the driver folder to the exclusions list. Re-enable after installation completes.
LG phone is detected by Windows but Flash Tool doesn't see it
This means the driver is installed correctly but the phone is not in the right mode. LG Flash Tool requires Download Mode, not standard USB file transfer. Power off your phone completely, then hold Volume Down while plugging in the USB cable. The screen should show a Download Mode warning screen. Open LG Flash Tool only after the phone is in Download Mode — it will not appear in the device list otherwise.
Driver was installed previously but stopped working after a Windows update
Windows Updates occasionally reset USB driver bindings. Uninstall the existing LG USB device entry from Device Manager (check "Delete the driver software for this device"), then reinstall the driver package from scratch. This clears any corrupted entries left by the update.
